HDTV cards pcie/usb. Could use some advice other than moving :).

Here's my dilemma. Have a great HDTV but my local cable company doesn't broadcast in hd. Analog looks good @1080p but still. I want to watch the Olympics, Superbowl, and Nascar in HD which they send thru the ASTC format.
Question: I live in an apartment and was thinking about getting an external antenna and running thru a coax a/b switch so I could alternate between ASTC (over the airwaves) and analog cable. Do you think that might work? I have a Blu-Ray drive for my newer dvd's and 1080p's awesome.

let the tv scan for the channels and see if it picks them up.I have comcast with no HD channels and i get all the local over the air hd with no external antenna
