So I didn't feel like waiting for a PS3, so I decided to buy an XBOX 360 instead. bought it yesterday and will buy the HD DVD player soon. So far i've only bought Marvel Ultimate Alliance so I didn't get the chance to test out any other games.

Today, as I was looking over at PC Richard I spoted this tv: Samsung LNS4095D for a little over $1700. It's a sweet tv and was the last one left. Got it hooked up to the Xbox and it's sweet although I think MAU is 720p so it doesnt do it justice.

Now I ask you, all you HDTV experts... what else should I do to broaden my HD experience :). RossMan, do you think this was a good tv at a good price?

Why not just PM Rossman as this question is obviously directed only at him?

He was only asking RossMan if it was a good deal.

Move along now.

Gears is awesome if you like shooters. Oblivion is another good game to try out. It's more of a RPG though.

Let us know how the HD-DVD drive is! I haven't decided if I should get one or not.

EDIT: hooking up a PC to it is another option. I just personally never got into it. I tried it, but I really don't want to sit and use a PC at my TV. I'd rather watch TV or use a console. Others love it though. Depends on what you think.

Reviews of the HD-DVD drive seem favorable. If you have Netflix they rent HD-DVD no extra charge, and you can read disc reviews at AVSForum.com and thedigitalBits.com

HD cable costs about an extra $15-20 month above normal rates with a DVR recorder (dual-tuner, watch and record different things).

You paid significantly less than retail and even less than BB's sale price, right?

There's your answer

I'm thinking about connecting it with my computer but don't know if it's really worth it. what type of hdmi cable do i get?
also, i have a regular cable hooked up from my cable box to the tv. should i get a component video cable to get better image quality.

I don't know that HDMI is better quality than DVI-D and DVI cables are cheaper. I could be wrong. Try using a DVI cable to connect to your PC and see how it goes.

What's a 'regular cable'? RCA? VGA? coax? Don't use an RCA composite cable, that's just horrible for HDTV. You have to use component to get HDTV quality.

I thought that Marvel Ultimate Alliance was the worst of the games that's come out in the last little while.

Gears of War, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and this week's Rainbow Six: Vegas are all new titles that pretty much require play this holiday season. (I was never a Call of Duty fan.)

I also have an OTA (Over The Air) tuner on my HDTV and pull in high definition TV for free. It rocks.

You need the VGA cable set to connect an Xbox to a computer monitor.

I've done both, and the image quality is different. I've found HD LCD TV's to produce a much brighter and more vivid picture. Computer LCD's on the other hand usually require some substantial tweaking on your Xbox to get the brightness up high enough.

However, once tweaked in, I've found a standard 19" computer LCD set for wide display looks far better with an Xbox than a conventional TV LCD. Gears of War for instance on a Computer LCD looks better than most PC game titles I've seen.

Well, the advantages of 1080p over 1080i are debateable, but I'll play along.

In that range I personally would have shelled out the $150 extra to get the SXRD.

50" SXRD

What is wrong with Westinghouse? Very good reviews. I don't have the time to find all the DLPs in that range. First the comes to mind was the Sammy 61" for $1900 last week which included your beloved 1080p.

All the bashing aside, you'll love the LCD im sure. Any HDTV is better then no HDTV. :)

PS: Get Gears of War asap! ;)

EDIT: removed FW linkage.
