HDTV as a PC monitor

Hey guys, I just bought an eVGA 8600 GT card and I'd like to try and hook it up to my HDTV. I thought I read somewhere that you have to be careful because if I have the wrong settings I could permanently damage my TV. My TV is a 32 inch Polaroid 1080i HDTV. Sorry I don't know the model number offhand. And yes I know that I could probably find my answer on google but I have much more faith in the AT board. Oh yea, this would be for games like WoW and possible Lord of the rings online. Thanks!
