At work, I earned a prize of a HDTV. Which couldn't have come at a better time because my CRT monitor the one I'm using now as I type this is on it's last leg, it's picture is starting to warp. So I decided to use the HDTV as my new monitor which would be fine and dandy if the s-video didn't look so shitty. I told a buddy of mine about my issue he suggested that I get a DVI to HD which looks more like dvi to 3 colored rca plugs. The HDTV does not have DVI or VGA.

Setting up s-video to work through nvida's driver config is a breeze. However using the cord i just purchased is nothing but a headache. It should so work, but it's not. I have done a lot of work trying to get this to work. Allow me to tell you what I have done, so you don't end up wasting your time and fingers from telling me what I've already done.

I have gone to nvidias website looking for help they/themselves wont help you over the phone, they keep sending me to either a user forum or a knowledge base which is a searchable FAQ. The FAQ on setting up HDTV shows a setup where theres a TV wizard button in the control panel of nvidias driver config, however that button only appears for me if it detects an s-video cord is connected. NOT when Only have plugged in of my DVI to RCA cord. I know windows notices that I attached seomthing to the machine cuz it makes a new connection beep.

I did search the user boards for my problem, lots of people have the same problem I do, so I'm not alone, but no one gives a good answer other than letting know what different TV they bought in which everything works fine on it. That doesent help me.

I've tried having the machine boot up and the only video connection connected to my machine is the dvi to HDTV and only once I got a quick glimmer of my pc screen it was very distored, so I thought maybe the cord was i nwrong so I touched or fixed them the picture just went streight to that default blue screen of no signal.

I am on video 2 which is what the manual and customer service rep told me over the phone of who makes my HDTV. He even told me the cord I bought should work they way I want, so I know I'm on the right track. I think my problem is a driver issue.

Since I do not have the most up to date drivers I am going to do that immediately, hopefully this will fix my problem but since I highly doubt it, I'm messageing you.

I know tech support is not easy with little to no details so I'm trying to be as forthcomming as possible. Als I'm running windows xp 32bit sp2, 2gigs of ram, AMD 5200+ dual core processor, x-fi soundblaster fatality soundcard on an asus corsshair mobo.

Thank you for reading this and for any help you may offer.

That isn't an HDTV, it is a 640x480 LCD.

That is a cable made for hardware which is able to either output or accept a component signal though a DVI-I port, it is usless with the parts you are trying to connect.

Your videocard is designed to output a component signal though the DIN port that functions as an s-video output but has extra pins to support a component dongle as seen in the picture BassBomb linked. Such a dongle likely came packaged with your videocard, and it should provide an improvement over s-video.

Sorry, I failed to notice the fact that the TV was incorrectly reported as an HDTV when it is in fact NOT an HDTV :)

I apologize for being lazy.

It looks plain odd to me that you want to use a GTX with a 20" 640x480 16ms 135vva LCD TV/DVD .. It's all gonna look terrible, even if it had HDMI .. What's the use of your GTX on 6x4 ? It'll just get older without you using it like you should :) Sell the TV and buy yourself a monitor, even a 17" ProView would be better !
