OK, assuming non 16:9, what is the horizontal 'resolution' on a 1080i HDTV. And while we're on the subject, has anyone tried those ATI component adapters yet and used them on games? Is text readable?

Well, if it's badged 1080i HDTV, then it should have at least 1080 lines of horizontal resolution, right?

The only 4:3 HDTV that I am familiar with is the 40" Sony Wega KV-40XBR700, and it claims to have 1280 lines of horizontal resolution.

However, most widescreen (16x9) HDTVs that I've casually looked at have ranged from 1024 to 1366... or so their specifications claim.

-----

Anyone know what horizontal resolution the 34" Sony KD-34XBR2 has? I'd be interested to know, as the XBR700 has a 16x9 picture that would be about 3" larger than the XBR2.

There are plenty of 4:3 HDTVs. IMHO, they're worthless though; 16:9 is where it's at! :)

I am well aware that there are plenty of 4:3 HDTVs. I meant that the XBR700 was the only one that I was familiar with, because that's the only 4:3 HDTV that I have seriously considered buying. But now with the XBR800 on the horizon, I am forced to wait... and wait...

16x9 is all well and good, but the only decent-sized TVs that offer that are either out of my price range, or RPTVs.

My friend has a Sony Trinitron Wega Goodness HDTV 36" that does 1080i and I'm just trying to figure out what resolution to play games on it at w/ the ATI connector and experience the least distortion.

I would venture to guess 1024x768.

That's what I thought. Does it stretch it or leave black area around the 1024x768 display area?

I was just guessing... I really have no clue.

You could always try it and see, eh?

I just recieved my component adapter. The resolution is sweet BUT i cant get the desktop to fit the screen right :-( Its like you cant access your start menu or anything, i dont know if im doing sumthing wrong but i cant get it to fit perfect. And most dvds i try wont let me watch at 1080i because of copyright protection, im trying to find a way around it. the only way i know is to rip the whole dvd to your hard drive and watch the .vob files. But omfg starwars phantom menace looks friggens sweet as all hell at 1080i, i just bout busted a nut.
