I just obtained a Maxtor 45 + and a Promise ata100 controller. I am running a K6/2-500 on a P5a mobo. Hd tach has my drive at about 33 MBs read sustained and 80 MB burst. Has anyone else used HDtach? and how did it turn out for you?

Are you complaining, or just pointing it out for comparison (can't tell the tone)? That sounds in line with what it should be. AFAIK, those high DMA 66/100 speeds are only hit with the internal cache in the hard drive. No current hard drive today is capable of coming even close to those speeds on a sustained basis. Go to Storage Review.com for a good idea of hard drives' performance.

Holy cow!! a response!! lol, Not complaining, it's my first ata100 drive and i was wondering if anyone was actually getting any closer to the 100MB/sec transfer, Your input actually answered my question , thx🙂
