HDs for a cooler computer

Would using a notebook HD at 7200 rpm result in a cooler computer than using a regular desktop HD. I would be using about 4 of the 2.5" 7200 rpm 500gb (hope they come out with a 1 TB version) instead of 4 3.5". Do the 2.5" give off less heat and it seems like since they are smaller, there would be better airflow between the drives. Or am I overthinking things? Probably use a case like the Antec p183 or maybe will use my cuurent CM 590.

Yes, less heat, but not worth the money. A simple low speed fan will keep a cheap 3.5" going no problem.

Samsung had some 5400 RPM 1 TB drives, i got one, they run cool.

in 2003 i got a little carried away & bought 4 different IDE 120 GB drives, all 7200 RPM. it was interesting how some of them ran cool. the Maxtor ran the coolest, then the WestDig, then the Seagate. The Hitachi/Deathstar ran the hottest.

still got all of them, they all still run ... i think.

i'm trying to drive my electricity bill into the ground (as little as possible) so i got my computer set to the laptop power settings. it shuts off after a half hour when i'm not using it, that keeps things cool too.

I have a 500GB Seagate 7200.12 drive that is very thin, very quiet and very cool. They are fast and inexpensive.

I also have a 750GB drive that is quite the heater. If you look at my sig, you can see my system inside and see how I suspended the drives, then mounted a silent and thin 90mm fan right next to the 750 to keep it cool.

I would say that the smallest, slowest, quietest fan should keep a normal hard drive very happy.

This pic shows the drives the the fan on the right side of the drives:

The thing is that I'll have about 4 HDs in the case with not much space between the drives. I thought a 2.5 in a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter would keep things cooler.

Is there a way to just add a little air flow to the area? You would be surprised at how much an ~800rpm 92mm fan would help.
