My cousin is looking to buy a house in the Bay Area and sent me this listing asking what the effect is called... I laughed then cried a little (and not because of the housing prices). That first picture is just awful. Do they really think it looks good?

Wow, as a real estate photographer who uses HDR I'd have to say that that's awful. And my market is right in the Bay Area as well. But it's really all up to the Realtors - they are the ones buying the photography and there is both a lack of skill for the vast majority of real estate photographers and a lack of any clue of what looks good on the part of realtors.

Hey, you think your cousin could go to the realtor and complain to them about how awful the photography was and then point to my website as an example of how it should be done?

still cool in my book.
sure the photo is overdone and pretty cheesy looking, but photography is an art.

The indoor photos aren't too terrible, but the two outdoor shots are simply awful and the person who "made" them should be slapped. :disgust:

They make the place look pretty weird.

The outdoor shot makes it look like you live in a weird place. The living room shot makes the floor look REALLY polished/waxy. The Kitchen shot makes the lighting seem like you're under heatlamps or something.

The dining room looks closest to OK to me, just the lamp halo and reflection on the table.
