HDMI won't show full screen.

I just bought the

SAPPHIRE 100282XTREME Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

and when I hooked up my monitor via HDMI it wouldn't show a full screen. the edges were cropped, but when I hooked it up via VGA through the DVI-VGA adapter it worked just fine. Any solutions?

Change the scaling on your monitor you will need to over scan it should be in the Catalyst control center under LCD monitors

More pixely? Than what? (what were you using before and what all have you changed since?) If you mean just compared to before you had it scaled fullscreen then that's how its supposed to look. If you mean compared to VGA I don't know. If you mean compared to your previous setup then:

Is this is a fresh install? Do you use ClearType? Is it Firefox 4? The latter has new hardware acceleration and the 2D one applies some sort of smoothing (uses Windows ClearType I believe), although I think that would be causing the opposite effect to what you're seeing (it blurs things, too much for me, so I turned it off).

Yes I do use cleartype. But before when I used my onboard video my text was clear. Text in here is fine (this forum), but the bookmarks toolbar and my gmail looks different.

Well, try checking your monitor resolution properties on the PC to see if it is matching the actual pixel resolution of the monitor. For example, on my cheap 40 inch LCD TV 1920 x 1080 pixels, when I use the HDMI to my PC video card, the PC automatically defaults the resolution to 1280 x 720 (720p) instead of the full 1080P. This makes all fine-line stuff like fonts look like crap. I had to force the vid card to full 1080P resolution.

yes, the resolution is set to the actual resolution

Look at the bookmarks toolbar and my gmail font looks all off from what it used to be before switching to my video card.

Ok, I assume that's Firefox 4? That's the hardware acceleration (to me it looks blurry, although I guess it does look like when you've got low res pixelation issues as well). You can turn it off in the Options (Options -> Advanced -> General -> Browsing, should be a check box for it).

You can also turn off just the 2D (which seems to fix the text, but will keep the 3D hardware acceleration) by going into the config files.

There's also a tool to adjust Clear-Type, although it didn't help at all with this issue I feel, so I just disable hardware acceleration for the time being.
