hdmi vs dvi to hdmi

So i have a m3a78-em asus motherboard and am using integrated graphics along with a 24 inch monitor at 1920x1200. when i use the hdmi to hdmi cord i get colors that look faded, but when i switch to a dvi to hdmi cord i get normal graphics... as i have read elsewhere dvi and hdmi should have the same video technology. whats going on?

DVI only has video, HDMI has both video and sound. If you only need it for your monitor, use the one that looks better.
