HDMI to VGA

Hi guys

I need to setup a number of PCs with two monitors. I have a problem though: The PCs have a VGA and an HDMI output, but the monitors only have VGA inputs. I have some HDMI to DVI and some DVI to VGA conveters, but the two DVI jacks does not fit each other. I believe the reason is that HDMI cannot be passively converted to VGA.

Am I right?

Right, a DVI port has extra pins specifically to carry VGA which lets a DVI->VGA adapter work (the video card just sends a VGA signal over those pins), but HDMI has no pins supporting VGA and would require an active converter which is a bit expensive.

Thanks for the help.

I will get some monitors with digital input instead.

It could actually be cheaper to buy replacement video cards with the proper outputs for $35 each than to buy different monitors, but I'm not sure what your circumstances or requirements are.
