HDMI to VGA cable/adapter

Need an ultrabook at the office, and the only viable & available model at the moment is the HP Folio which only has an HDMI port for external monitors/displays. If I grab this, I'd need to purchase an HDMI -> VGA cable or adapter, but I'm not sure how well they work.

Has anyone used one? Was it a pain to get working (i.e. everything off before connecting cable)? Did it support resolutions other than 720 or 1080?

I don't think there are HDMI to VGA adapters, because VGA uses analog signals, while HDMI is digital.
DVI to HDMI usually works because DVI often, but not always, has both analog and digital.

edit: ooo, so it looks like this can do the signal conversion. http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/cables/1/accessories/NP031AA%23ABA
And I even found a basic adapter cable on amazon, though that one doesn't do any conversion of the signals (it does say it is not intended for PC use).

The [cheap] boxes work typically only at 720 or 1080. They tend not to do any electronic ID work so the monitor must support 720 or 1080 (or the projector.)

The mega costly ones in the greater than $150 -> $200 area are more open but they are typically using active chips /power and can handle things like "normal" display res.

The HDMI -> VGA cables rarely work because almost no devices in existence actually push analog to the HDMI port. Yes it exists but the chance the laptop does it close to nil.

HDMI -> VGA dongles exist. I got one for my HP laptop that didn't have a VGA output.

This should work with your HP Ultrabook.

The problem is similar to the free boxes cable companies gave out to folks with analog TVs when they went all digital. The HP adapter has decent reviews. There are also HDMI to VGA cables.

I got that one it works beautifully. Got it when it was onsale for $25.
