I want to run an HDMI signal from my computer room, into the living room approximately 50 feet away. I want to do this in order to use my PC an an HTPC without having an extra box in the living room, and also so I can go gaming with my 360 controller on the big screen.

I have come up with a couple of options so far and wondering which one is the best.

1) Run a 50 FT HDMI cable from the computer to the TV. I am not sure if HDMI will actually work consistently up to 50 FT, and the cable itself would be quite big and bulky.

2) Use HDMI to Ethernet adapters and run Cat 5e from the PC to the TV. Doing this I use smaller, cheaper, and more concealable Ethernet cables. I am concerned about introducing latency using this method though.

Is anyone else here running a similar setup? If so what do you recommend? PS: No idea if this is the right forum for this post.

You will most likely need an amplifier for that kind of length. Otherwise you might be limited to 720p. This leads directly to:

This is most likely the best solution. A HDMI amplifier most likely cost the same as two HDMI-to-ethernet adaptors. And then you don't need an expensive HDMI cable, but can use cheap Cat5e.

There is also these. Not exactly cheap though...

Or you can buy Redmere HDMI cables, they should be able to handle 50ft no problem.

Is that 360 controller going to work from 50 ft away with presumably a bunch of walls in between?

I've used that cable at 1080p and it's worked just fine. What I end up worrying more about is how flaky my wireless keyboard works with walls in between.

Not too concerned about the controller or the keyboard/mouse. I can use a USB extension to get the wireless receiver for the controller closer to the living room, and for keyboard/mouse I have an app on my iPad that works over wi-fi.
