hdmi splitter

My tv only has 1 x HDMI port which the Xbox 360 uses. If I ever get another source that uses HDMI is it possible to get a switch/splitter or do I have to get a new display? Thanks.

Haha, yup, was just looking at those and reading the reviews. Nobody is mentioning quality loss so I think I will grab one.

As a general rule, you should never see quality loss from splitting a digital signal, or from sending it over relatively crappy cables.

You might see some dropouts and 'popping' if you tried to send it through a rusty coathanger, but signal quality issues are greatly reduced with digital signals as opposed to analogue.

You won't see a loss of quality but there will be a loss in amplitude of the signal (a coaxial splitter is generally 4db signal loss). This may affect the picture more so if you are running say a 12+ foot cable then splitting the signal you may need a powered splitter.

My mate has a 3 or 4 port HDMI switcher and it looks good to me. I can't tell if it goes direct or if it is split

His title says 'splitter' but he's actually asking for a switch, which should see essentially no loss of amplitude.
