HDMI sound from ati 3870?

Does anyone know if and how the hdmi out pass through for sound works on the 38xx series of cards? Does it pass 7.1 pcm or what is the max? thanks in advance.

It works if you use the propreitary DVI-HDMI adapter that comes with it. It is 5.1 AC3 only, no PCM.

Damn so it's the same as using a optical or coax out then?

Yep. The only advantage being it is all in one cable. As far as I know, there is no lossless audio output yet for the PC.

While the HDMI cable is convenient, I do notice audio stutter once in a while. Often enough for it to be annoying. Not sure if it is a problem with the card or the adapter. Anyone else experiencing this?
