I plan on keeping my 5.1 receiver until I can save moeney for a new receiver. I was told to take audio output from the TV into the AV receiver and run the speakers as normal. Will that be a stereo signal I will be feeding into the receiver? Can I get the audio signal directly from my PS3 into the receiver?

THanksss a lot for your help

You can take the HDMI run it to the HDTV and run the optical out on the tv however, if your tv is like my Sony it only outputs 2.0 channel audio. You would have to check the specs on your tv to find out if it passes through a 5.1 signal or not.

Or just run the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV for video. Then run an optical toslink cable from the PS3 to the reciever for audio. Then you have to change the PS3 settings to output via the optical cable. Its pretty easy and works well. You lose out on the lossless audio of HDMI to the reciever but you still get DD/DTS 5.1 through the reciever.

This is how I have it setup with my older non HDMI Denon.
