HDMI Resolutions & HDTVs

I've tried several video cards, DVI-to-HDMI and direct HDMI cables, and I just can't get my TV to output it's native resolution over HDMI.

I have a Vizio GV42L which natively supports 1366x768, and it works fine over VGA. If I try an HDMI cable of any sort, I get stuck at 720p, which of course scales the image up to full screen distorting things a bit and making text nearly unreadable.

I've tried NVIDIA, I've tried ATI, I've added custom resolutions, but none of them seem to let me run 1366x768 over HDMI. Am I stuck or am I just not setting things up right?

It is my understanding that over HDMI you are stuck at the 720P Resoultion

To get 1366x768, it will have to be over a VGA connection
