hdmi problem with new 9800GTX

ok, so i just installed a new GTX in my PC earlier. before, i had a 8800GT using a DVI to HDMI cable to hook my PC up to my LCD TV. when i hooked up the new card and installed the 174.74 drivers, i rebooted, and when my PC restarted, i started getting strange static type noise coming out of my TV speakers. those speakers are never used while using the hdmi input on my TV, because i use PC speakers. never had this happen till now.

any ideas? drivers need reinstalled or what?

I believe the 9800gtx has the ability to transmit audio over its HDMI interface as well as video. This feature might be the cause of you problem.

I?m not sure how/where you alter the settings for the audio feed via the control panel, though.

yeah, 9800 gtx sends audio out the DVI port when HDMI is connected. you'll need to get an HDMI converter that can handle the pinout NVIDIA uses for sending audio. i am not certain whether or not this is the same as what AMD does or not (i.e. i don't know if they can share converters that include audio). i'll have to look into that.

but i don't need the audio, as my pc uses its own speakers, not the TVs. can i disable it?

Just guessing as I have no experience with Nvidia HDMI audio but...

The default audio device may have been changed. Check in the Control Panel and change back and possibly enable "use default only". Otherwise, from Device Manager, perhaps disable the System Device "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio".

well, i didn't see that UAA bus driver under system devices, and as far as i can tell, none of my settings have changed.

guess i'm stuck using VGA now?

Can you not turn off your TV speakers in your TV options? I know i can in my 13 year old TV lol 🙂

well i can just turn them all the way down, but that would get annoying after a while.

just like now when i'm using the VGA input, when going from TV to my PC, i have to hit the Fill Screen button because if my TV is fullscreen, my desktop is 2 times the size of the screen. which is why i went to hdmi in the first place.
