HDMI output from laptop and overscan

Whenever I output HDMI to my TV from my Lenovo Y580 laptop, the overscan crops way too much from all the sides of the image. Isn't there anything in Windows 8.1 that allows me to shrink the image to fit my TV better?

Not within Windows itself. But your video drivers may offer such an option (I know off of the top of my head NVIDIA does; I don't know about the rest).

You should be adjusting your television, not the laptop.

If adjusting the TV is not an option, you'll need to fiddle with video drivers (assuming you have a discrete GPU).

From AMD's side, Catalyst Control Center has overscan options. NVidia should have some sort of overscan settings.

If there is anything you need to do from your TV end, it maybe things dealing with centering the image.

Ok, thanks.
I have a Nvidia GPU in the Laptop, GeForce GTX 660M to be exact. I suppose there is a program I can get from their site that allows me to control the card? My TV doesn't let me control these things.
What does "fiddle with video drivers" mean. I don't have any reference to how that's done.

You have to go into the nvidia control panel and find the option

You sure there's not an overscan toggle setting somewhere in your TV's settings? Maybe under Advanced under Video? My Insignia is pretty option-deprived relative to most big name TVs, but it does have this option (though it is only possible to control it in some circumstances, but HDMI from PC to TV is one of those circumstances--other times, it's greyed out).

Yes, I'm sure. Labelling the HDMI input hasn't helped and for whatever reason, my Nvidia program doesn't have any overscan settings.

You could try VGA. You would need to run a separate audio cable and video quality could be hot or miss at full HP on a VGA cable.

nvidia settings have a section for tv adjustment. It sounds like you'll have to set a custom resolution. I'm assuming you have an up-to-date driver and settings program installed, and aren't using some backwards/ancient piece of tech.

Another oddity I have found to work alot of times is to go in and make the minute setting (shrinking the screen), Save and then go back in and reset it to default.
For some reason it makes the system actually look at the tv settings and auto adjust it perfectly ( works about 80% of the time, I dont know why.).

This use to do my head in on older tvs and some newer ones

on the newer tvs i have found if you name the input to pc it stops the scan issues (this has worked on samsung and LG tvs for me)

i.e name the hdmi port PC

if it has a preseleted list of names for the input slots

edit: just read the rest of the posts some one already suggested this

Nothing has worked. Even when i tell the desktop to be on the TV it still sends the game,to my laptop screen. This only happens with Walking Dead. All other games are fine.
