Depends on your GPU but the last 4 or 5 generations of video cards have all carried sound over HDMI (even if you have to use a DVI->HDMI adapter). Makes using HDMI the most convenient way to hook your PC up to TV if you are planning on using audio over the HDMI.
Quality wise there is no difference between HDMI or DVI but VGA is inferior.
Monoprice.com is also a really good place for cables and adapters.
I'm not positive with ati cards, but older NVIDIA cards that didn't natively support sound through the hdmi adapter usually came with a spdif cable like http://www.google.com/products/cata...TdSOMJWkNbDJ8KQJ&sa=title&ved=0CAcQ8wIwADgA#p that you would connect from the card to your motherboards (or sound card if you have one) spdif pins. I've had to do this with a 8800gt and a 9800gt.
