I'm looking for the cheapest way to transmit HDMI over distances of 50 to 125 feet. 720p is required, 1080p would be a bonus.

Anyone got any ideas?

I saw DVI-D and HDMI (22 AWG) cables for 50, 75, 100 feet at monoprice.com.

Do you think that they'll be able to handle 720p over most device combinations?

I am using a 25 ft dvi to hdmi from my computer to my Pio 5080 with no problems. Don't know for sure how well ur signal is gonna be on the upper end of your distance requirements (125 ft).

I would have to say that 100ft is probably your best bet after that I don't think youll be able to garuntee a good signal.

Unamplified 50 feet should work fine up to 1080p with a reasonably good cable.

Unamplified 100 feet is also quite possible, but tougher.

I went with a mid-range Monoprice 26 gauge cable for my 25 ft. distance. (They work fine up to 1080i, but I haven't tested 1080p.) I would have spent more on the cable just to be safe, but the problem is that very high end thick cables don't bend very well. I needed to navigate some 90 degree turns for my cable run along a wall (that was already built). However, had I been able to run these cables behind the wall (with much less space restrictions), then I would most definitely put in thicker cables, cuz once they're in the wall you can't change them.

My guess is 75 feet with 22 gauge Monoprice cables will be just fine at 720p and 1080i. Not so sure about 1080p or 100 feet though. Just make sure your setup is suitable for long stiff cables. Those cables are extremely thick.

Anyone know who sells them (cheap/good quality)?

I found one example so far: Extron apparently sells these

for a suggested price of $810.

I use Gefen products are work fairly often and they are of good quality.

Heres a DVI via CAT5 one

HDMI via Cat 5

Another option is a mid-line HDMI signal booster:
