HDMI Monitor failure

Heya,

I've just assembled a new computer and tried to connect the monitor to the PC with an HDMI cable, but it doesn't seem to work. It says that it's looking for a source when it's connected.

I use a Gigabyte GTX 275 869mb graphics card with a built in HDMI output and an LG 24" W2453V-PF monitor with an HDMI input.

I made sure that the extra wires that connect the graphics card to the HDMI socket on the motherboard are connected.

I get the feeling that I'm doing something stupidly wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure what's going on.

As you can see, there's three different 275's. Which one are you using?

Are you getting video at all from the card, via DVI?

We've got some monitors at work with both Analog and HDMI connections. They can be set to Analog/Digital/Auto. One tech thought it was broken when it was set to Analog and connected to HDMI. Just another thing to check

Hey,

My card is the GV-N275UD-896I one.

My monitor is actually set to automatically discover the source, so I don't think that that's the problem.

For the moment, I've only got a d-sub cable, which apparently works fine connecting the card to the monitor. I'll get a dvi cable if the hdmi option is not working, though it feels a bit of a waste if that's the case.

Have you tried selecting HDMI as the input? I wouldn't count on the TV to do it all by itself everytime. Do you have another TV/Monitor to test the HDMI out on?

edit: also, you can also give it a shot without the motherboard connector (i believe thats for sound).

It didn't work. I suppose I have no choice but to use a dvi cable. Seems weird that they would put an hdmi output on the card when it doesn't seem to work as it should...

Have you tested the monitor with another HDMI device? It is also possible (but unlikely) that you need to install the drivers for the card first before the HDMI port will work (like i said, unlikely).

could be that the hdmi is secondary and dvi primary and requiring primary to be connected before a signal is sent through hdmi
