Ok my brother-in-law got this TV:
http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=27
(not bad either, ALMOST as good as my SD CRT with QAM tuner :p of course 480i looks nice on my TV :p)
and he has this uber nasty upscaling DVD player:
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/e....html?ProductID=DRC257

Both from Wal-Mart, but he was on a tight budget and wanted a policy where you just take it back to the store :p Also, didn't have to worry about UPS....

Anyway, whenever we hook up the HDMI it doesn't handshake, it flips on and off but there is no sound or video just black screen when flipped on (2 second rotation) and white noise in speakers and video.
Also, we have to "TAP" the top front of the DVD player (I think just loose front panel connector) to make the front display work, and sometimes when doing that it gives some kind of hexadecimal error code (I think, but it is still playing the video when testing with component).

Component works fine (480p) but HDMI doesn't work, even tried taking out either end and replugging it (like the problem with the Westys and PS3s).

Right now I am going to Google each model number and see what I can find out.
