Yeah...answer the question in the title. I'm considering getting an HDMI dvd player now, but if Blu-ray or HD-dvd is coming soon, should i just wait for that?

what do you think? I need to put my 50" hitachi LCD projection tv to better use :D 480p isn't cutting it for me on my standard dvd player. lol

and this is mostly just a video issue...so i put it here...

So you're thinking of getting an upconverting player?

With real HD just around the corner, I'd wait for that.

Sometimes letting you TV do the scaling will result in better images than an upconverting DVD player too.

EDIT: oh, and if you decide to go this route, check out the oppo 971 and Panasonic S77/S97

Yeah, i'd like to watch movies in 720p or 1080i...but if real HD players will be coming soon (how soon exactly?) and if they wont be too expensive (along with the price of a normal video...disk...that they use) and they will be used a lot at launch (dvd kinda slowly came to be popular) then i wont worry about HDMI

otherwise, i'm considering it, so thanks for those products you mentioned

Yeah, you're just changing where the scaling happens (by your DVD player instead of your TV)

I don't know how much HD stuff is going to change, but I'm thinking there might be more demand for it than when DVDs started to come out since a lot of people can't wait to get the most out of the HD sets they bought.
