The BlackMagic Intensity has both an HDMI Input and Output and bypasses the encoder chip, allowing direct capture of HiDef HDMI video from your Sat/Cable Box. This is SOOOO awesome. At $250, they're affordable too. Now the only thing left is to see if it'll be compatible with any popular PVR Software.

It does not do HDCP, so it won't work unless you get one of those HDCP-undo things.

The company's site says that this works by bypassing the HDV compression chip, allowing you to access raw superior-quality video, but gives no word on whether or not it supports HDCP.

This means that you will need a method of real time compresion, but is a step in the right direction.
