Someone told me this about a hdmi cable is it possible?

hdmi's HPD pin is supposed to be recessed so voltage doesn't pass until the plug is fully seated, some cable manufacturers don't care and have all pins the same length so you can end up with hot plug shorts and arcing that damages devices either end.

HDMI doesn't run at high enough voltage to create arcs. It is however common to have certain pins be recessed and others longer, to minimise errors on the bus right as it comes up. (SATA cables do this, for example) Potentially things could get damaged if the cable wasn't built properly, but it's unlikely, as the devices themselves should have some protection anyways.

Thanks. Thought so.
