HDMI Cable to TV needs to go

Have a 15' HDMI cable going from PC into TV, it's severely annoying at my new apartment because it gets in the way, and also wanted to put my TV on a wall mount which can't happen with the cable.

Need some suggestions on a new setup here. I really don't feel like building a separate HTPC just for watching movies on my TV, my PC works fine. Is wireless HDMI a reality yet? Any other options anyone can think of?

Why can't you run a cable if it's on a wall mount?

If you are handy, cut a small slot in the drywall and fish the HDMI cable down through the wall and out at the bottom. If you don't make a huge hole, it would be easy enough to patch when it comes time to move, or put a blank switch plate over the hole.

Wireless do work well, if you but the good expensive $200+ ones

As Charlie98 mentioned, get the cable inside the wall and out near the floor and run it by the baseboard. Nothing compares to the reliability of the good old wired connection. If you need longer cable to do that and worried about loss of quality then you can always get the Redmere cables...

My HDTV has HDMI cables on both sides and the back. Some HDTV's can probably be run off of a network cable. They make 90 degree cables. Some HDTV's have HDMI connectors on the bottom with a hidden edge.

A professional surface mount job would have a face plate behind the TV where you can run power and cables through the wall and come out down below to a control box or something. Or you could use a small thin computer or a tv extender/control box on the back of the tv and make it wireless.

So there may be a good reason to go with a more expensive mount or a professional Installation job.

Go wireless, just bought a new tv for bedroom and went with a wireless HDMI from htpc to it and it works great!

I went with Actiontec MyWireless TV as got it under $100 with a rebate from Tiger Direct.

Can't be sure this is what you need, but others here suggested wireless.

Point being. I backed away from "wireless" solutions some years back, deeming them "unreliable." NOw that I've come up to speed again, I'm thinking a lot of improvements in the technology can be found in several products, which means "options" for you.

I don't understand your reasoning here. You're going to need cables going to the TV regardless of what they're plugged into. Even if you go wireless you still need power.

You can buy special plates for a cleaner way to run wires into walls. But cutting a hole is pretty much a requirement if you want to mount it there.

I used a Redmere cable and tucked it between the carpet and the base board.

The reasoning behind the cable and wall mount is that my 15' barely reaches the TV as it is, if I go with a wallmount the cable will be mid air in front of my closet and I'll be playing limbo to get my jacket. I've heard mixed opinions about longer HDMI cables, originally I was told you shouldn't go longer than 15' because of quality degradation, however someone told me they have no problems with a 30' cable so that might be an option.

Even though the wireless HDMI system BonzaiDuck linked looks nice, I'm also told that wireless HDMI really isn't up to par yet and I'll lose quality there as well.

Another option I'm looking at is just getting Chromecast and then use Plex on my tablet to stream to my TV.

I'd check out the Roku before you go Chromecast. We're totally wireless here.

Interesting, looks like they put some type of amplifier chip in each end of the cable.

Ahh, I'm with ya now.

They were terrible in the past. Glad to see it's now becoming more reliable. I was thinking about getting one for my PC.
