I have a Win7 64-bit HP SP1 computer, with an AMD/ATI HD4850, using an ATI-branded DVI-to-HDMI adaptor, and an HDMI cable to connect to my Westinghouse 24" HDTV LED LCD TV / monitor (model EWM24F1Y1). I bought the HDTV at BestBuy.
I initially had issues, with losing HDMI audio sync. If I turned on the HDTV, then booted the PC, then I would have HDMI audio. But if I turned the HDTV off, or let the computer go into monitor sleep mode, and then wake it up again, I would lose HDMI audio, and the OSD would say "HDMI", then say "DVI", and I would be stuck with no audio.
Well, I installed an HDMI monitor switcher, a small three-port one from monoprice (Sold through BestBuy's marketplace), and I re-installed that PC, and I just noticed that I no longer seem to have that issue. It seems that having the HDMI switcher in place, is keeping the HDMI audio sync alive somehow.
I'm using the "legacy" Cat 13.1 drivers right now, according to CCC.
Something to try if you are running into the same issue, and trying to get by with an HD4850 card and an HDMI HDTV / monitor and Win7 64-bit.
The HDMI switcher was only like $13, I think.
