HDMI audio automatically switching over when changing to HDMI out

I wasn't having any problems with this prior, but it (seems) to have stopped switching from PC audio to HDMI audio out when I change my output selection. I'm using 11.8 on a 5870... anyone else experience this? I don't clearly remember, but I don't think the 11.7 did this. It could have been something I did because I think I pulled out the multimonitor profiles, did a clean install with 11.8 and then placed them back in the directory (ati.localfiles) or whatever it is. When you open up the audio properties page though, it finds the HDMI audio and switches automatically at that point.

One thing I have noticed, is that you can now put Flash videos full screen on a 2nd monitor, and work on the 1st without the video leaving fullscreen mode which is nice. Not sure when this behavior started but it's something I've wanted a long time and glad that changed.

This began happening to me after switching to 11.8 as well.
I switched the audio driver portion back to the 11.7 version and all is well.
(my card is an HD6850)

I have had problems with my ATI 780G HDMI audio not enabling when I wake my HTPC from monitor-off mode. It wakes up the monitor, but the audio device selected in windows goes to the SPDIF, instead of the HDMI.

It was working fine for like a year, then it stopped working, with some 10.x driver set.

I tried updating to the newest 11.8 drivers, and that seemed to fix it for a few times, then it started doing it again.

I have to open the audio output device selection page, and THEN it auto-detects and auto-switches to the HDMI output. Such a pain!

Have you guys tried disabling all the audio options you aren't using? On my system I have Optical/Analog from the motherboard, HDMI from the videocard, and Optical/Analog from the soundcard.

I had issues when switching to the big screen with with a hotkey of the audio switching from SPDIF from the sound card to HDMI from the videocard. I just went into the sound devices panel, set SPDIF out from the soundcard as default, then disabled all the other options.

I haven't had an issue since.

I've always had mine setup like that, SPDIF and Digital Output disabled. You're on 11.8 railven?

VirtualLarry's is acting exactly like mine. I think it was fine with 11.7 as Soundmanred said. I'm going to try uninstalling the audio driver tonight and installing the one from 11.7.

I've also disabled all other audio options, HDMI is the only one I use. Going back to 11.7 fixed the issue, it hasn't happened since.

I can't disable all of my audio devices, I use a MagicJack, and under Windows 7, it appears as an audio device.

I uninstalled the 11.8 HDMI audio driver and installed the 11.7 version. Problem gone. Still using the other parts to 11.8 though. I dont think disabling the the other devices is necessary but I do, and I set HDMI audio to the default device as well as default communications device. That part might be necessary, just became a habit for me.

edit- misspelled 'think'.. typing using the Logitech DiNovo mini, enjoying auto switching audio again..

I don't think MagicJack needs to be disabled, I think setting HDMI audio to the default audio device will be enough, and might not even need to be done.

how did you get just the 11.7 audio driver? I can only seem to get the whole package, or the display driver/ccc/opencl driver, no seperate audio driver available.

Run the 11.8 package, uninstall the audio driver.
Run the 11.7 package, install just the audio driver.

I just uninstalled 11.8 completely, and installed 11.7 last night. I woke the computer from monitor-off mode just now, and the HDMI audio came back automagically. This is the first time that it's worked in a long time. Thank you!

Any of you guys try this out on 11.9 yet? I didn't see anything about it in the release notes. I'll prob give them a shot, if they act the same way I'm just going back to 11.7 (not just the audio driver), until they get this fixed.

Back to normal for me in 11.9

Not for me :(
Very frustrating this, I right click the volume icon in the notifications area, select playback devices and on the window opening it realises that my tv is connected and switches the audio. Why it doesn't do it automatically anymore I don't know.
