So I am pretty close to buying the Viewsonic VX2025 widescreen, but every time I do, I think about HDMI. I wonder how many of have had the same issue? Is it really an issue? Will the consumer win in the end and will HDMI will be just a forgotten idea?

HDMI is for HDTVs right now ,not PC monitors. In the future you will probaly need
HDMI to watch copy-protected movies.

HDMI is a convenient interface standard with combined audio & video (with the latter being DVI compatible). It is the HDCP content protection standard which is troubling and should cause careful consideration of any purchasing decision.

Other considerations are the forthcoming HDMI 1.3 spec for higher bandwidth and two other competing standards: Unified Display Interface and DisplayPort. The former optionally includes existing HDCP while the latter DPCP.

The consumer just can't "win" in a time of rapid change (unless perhaps they can take advantage of bargain bin supplanted technologies).

So you could fret over lack of HDMI (particularly sans HDCP) only to find it becomes obsolete before or shortly after it is introduced to PC displays. Essentially, all you can do is plan for the short-term.

So what is the advise? Shall I get the monitor and give in? Or do I hang on till an HDMI capable LCD monitor is available?

I would think it depends on what you are wanting to use your computer for. If you want to play games the 2025 should be just fine. Look at vga they still use that without too bad of a video. If you want to play video then you might want to look at a display with HDCP for the future. If you want to play anything through your monitor like a dvd player or xbox or ps3 then you would want to look for something with more hook ups, but it's not really needed because you can use vga on the xbox.

You could get a HDTV that has HDMI and VGA.Then you could convert the DVI
from yr PC with a DVI to HDMI,or just use VGA fom the PC.
