HDMI a sound source??

So I'm having this issue with my sound. Despite my MOBO having an onboard sound card, I always buy an aftermarket one, generally a soundblaster.

So anyway, I have a 2-monitor set up where one monitor is by DVI, and the other one by HDMI. I don't know if this is a problem, but I thought I'd just lay out the thought processes..

So anyway, every time I turn on my computer, its a coin flip between whether my sound comes through my speakers, or whether it comes through my Monitor that is hooked up through HDMI. whne it comes through the HDMI monitor, the sound card and all speaker components disappear from the device manager.

So has this happened to anyone else? how does one combat this??

Once again, thanks in advance. and any and all help is appreciated.

You can set a default sound device. Go to advanced sound properties. Without it, it will be pretty random and might depend on which monitor comes out of standby mode first.

This should not happen. This indicates a hardware problem with your sound card. Either loose connection, or failing, or PSU issues.
