If one has a 1.3a receiver and a 3DTV, that means if I plug in the BD player to the receiver, which goes to the TV, the 3D signal won't pass right?

If I want to sacrifice sound for 3D, I could plug it straight into TV, bypassing the receiver right?

yes, your TV should have an audio out which you can loop back into the AVR however some TVs only send 2.0 out and not the full 5.1/7.1 signal

And even if it can send the "full" 5.1 signal, it will only be sending the lossy audio and not the lossless HD audio, unless the TV is equipped with and HDMI out for audio. It likely has an optical out, which can't pass the lossless audio. Also, I would say that the vast majority of TVs only send 2.0 audio for everything other than the TV tuner.

IMHO, this fake 3D is just a marketing scam. It best to go for sound quality instead of eye candy. If you want to use fake 3D, get a surround sound processor that has support for it and use your AV receiver as the amplifier. This will only work if you bought an AV receiver that has a multi-channel input.

The digital audio output from a TV depends on each brand and model. Read the manual and ask the manufacture. Also the firmware could have some changes, so the manual might then be wrong.
