HdDvd versus Bluray?

I am not even going to look into upgrading until next yeat. I have a Samsung that upcoverts and looks just as good. And by just as good, I mean that there is not a need for a $500+ player for HD content. I see a bit of a diference

However, my hope is for HDDVD because I want Sony to fail.

on a quality HD set, you'll see quite a difference. Mostly in depth, but in sharpness as well.

hddvd has the support of the porn industry. Therefore it has already won.

if you followed news at all you'd see Vivid Entertainment is releasing porn on BD as well.

the winner will emerge when BR and HD meet for the final battle amidst the cliffs of highland Scotland, a duel to the death among swordsmen, and in the end, there can be only one.

When do you think there will be a clear cut winner?

No. Multi-format players are available from LG with more to follow from Samsung and eventually everyone else. At that point, from the comsumer point of view, it won't matter.

I think the VC1 codec really conveys the best quality in HD movies at a great compression ratio. BR or HD-DVD can use the codec. I think it is more common for HD-DVD discs to be mastered with the codec so most of the HD-DVDs look pretty sharp. I have gotten the impression that SONY touts video quality but some of the effort that was put into mastering the BR discs is lacking.

There is already a clear cut winner. The porn industry has chosen HD-DVD over blueray. Porn will always win.

People keep repeating this, and it still isn't true. The porn industry is using both formats at this time.

Obviously blu-ray will win because the pornography industry has decided to exclusively release for blu-ray only. the porno industry always dictates data formats.

Vivid is using both formats. Most others are not because it is too costly. They have gone with HD-DVD.
