HDD's role in overclocking. *INTEL directed question, but learned people the like are welcome

how much of an impact could i expect to see if i were to upgrade my master drive from a 7200/8mb IDE to a raptor or something of the like? my motherboard forces me to use an IDE/SATA adaptor. will such an adaptor hinder performance, or is it simply a matter of chain = weakest link kinda stuff?

also, to save from making another thread.....

my 520 is currently set at 240 at default voltage. i have some awesome memory, so pushing that around is no trouble. how high can i set my core voltage before i'm indiana jones'n it? i've got my ram at 3v and my cpu temp sit around 40-42 idle, so i assume this preshott's got some room temp wise. essentially, i'm having trouble finding what's limiting me. any intel owner's with info on this chip/mobo?

Cpu speed is nice, but hard drive speed is what I really notice. My main box is an Athlon 2500+ and has 2 Raptors in a raid 0, my second rig is an A64 2800+ with a 7200 rpm 8 meg cache WD drive. The Athlon box feels like it's twice as fast as the A64.
Just my .02.

read this Impact of hdd performance in desktop applications ....

That was really intresting, thanks for that. Essentially, if you have any kind of a recent SATA hd you arent missing out on anything. Greenman: It's all in your head man.
The HD plays no role at all in overclocking. In fact, if your PCI bus isn't locked at it's normal speed (your HD communicates with your chipset via this bus) then you will get data corruption on your hard drive.
