HDD wiped/fresh install/10.8ATI drivers - rant

yeah, but why would it do this?

I just manually did a 'hard' shutdown the first time; for curiosity i installed the drivers a second time and it did it again

Are you running win7 32?

I recently swapped from Win7 32 to 64 and the issues I previously had with the 10.8 (especially starcraft) have disappeared. Been running for the past three weeks with no problems so far.

Something didn't install properly for you it seems. Did you try a rollback?

after the install, win7 64 started to update it-self and the ati windows driver didn't install properly (twice) so i went ahead with the official ATI/AMD 10.8 driver and the OP happened.

Next time try nvidia drivers. They will probably work better with your card than AMD's own drivers.

Disable any anti-virus and/or internet security programs you have running and then give it a whirl. I've had similar issues bite me more than once because of this.
