HDD upgradation

Hi all
I put a new Seagate 80GB IDE drive into my computer which is an old P-I system. But when i do autodetection in the BIOS, the computer hangs. But if i set the drive's jumper of to limit the capacity to 32GB, autodetection is successful.
I've googled for the problem, and found that old motherboards do not support HDDs>32 GB.So i wanted to know, if i purchase a seprate IDE controller card, would i able to use full 80 GB on the drive.

Its a really old motherboard, made by some unknown company called Tiga, its model is TG-MVP+ .I couldn't find any BIOS update for it.So i guess buying a seprate IDE controller would be the best bet.
