HDD Unable to boot

Hello, Forums

First System:
Windows 7 64 bit current revision.
AMD athalon 64 4600+
ASUS m2n32 sli deluxe newest bios
ram 4 gigs checked not the problem
GPU redeon HD 4600

As the name suggest I am having boot problems. Happened this morning as the computer had a black screen ( No not monitor).

I rebooted and what do you know the HDD isn't recognized, a good cleaning and reconnecting wires fixed it but on boot up it was acting sluggish more like it started normal but would slow to a halt unable to do anything with it freezing. After rebooting it did the whole not recognizing HDD again so reconnected it started up again same thing sluggish and froze.
(Same thing in safe mode)


I used different connectors power and sata both and it did the same thing. I also used another HDD that has an old win xp os on it that has no problems even on the same sata connection as the win 7 HDD.
(I can access the data from the other HDD fine including transferring read/and writing data)

Now it doesn't boot at all gives me the whole boot from cd or what ever.
I tried repairing from my Install disc win 7 64 bit but problem is that all repair options on their dont work most of them say cant repair without knowing OS. Thing is it says Unknown os and unknown drive.
(Disc couldn't recognize drive till I unplugged all the drives)


Anyway what is wrong with my HDD Ive read it might be it failing but it sounds fine on start up and I can still transfer data without a problem.
So is it boot file problems. Malware preventing boot up if so how do I remove it when I cant turn it on.

Could be one of various possible issues with the HDD. One possibility is a bad solder joint of the HDD connector to the PCB. Spray out the HDD SATA connector with DEOXIT, attach the SATA cable and turn on the computer while holding/putting pressure on the SATA connector going into the HDD. If the machine boots or if the HDD becomes recognized in the BIOS then you have a bad connector/connection. Unless the problem becomes obvious so that you are able to effect repair, the HDD in all probability will need to be RMAed.
