Ive used the HD listed below for month with no problems but have expected better performance from it when I got it.
Ive run many benchmarking programs on it and all fall short or strange in some cases.
ATTO shows a flat read and from the 8k files up to 1M with 25Mps and the writes on accasion being faster, This is not right.
Sandra gives low scores all the time with Writes almost 10 times faster then reads.
Yes Ive tried other ribbons from UW, U2W and U160 same problem.
Tried another controller 3940UW and the same outcome.
Ive updated To the last bios for the MB that is also suppose to cure any PCI latency problems and Im running the latest 4 in 1's
THe drives rated max is 52Mps and I should be getting at least 3/4 ths of that and if I have reach any kind of limit of the drive ATTO should show some kind of slowdown the the results I would assume should be more of a mountain climb then a platue.
It is the only drive in the chain so no other drives can slow it down and it is terminated correctly.
I OCed the CPU, FSB and upped voltage also with no changes.
Does it seem Ive reached the drives real max, Maybe a fult in the drive or a setting withing the drive or OS thats no set.
Im stumped on this one after checking all I could.
Also need good program that displays and edits features in HD's to make sure Writeback and other needed features are on Adaptec used to have one in there Easy SCSI software but dont seem to have it in it anymore and dont give ESS out free anymore.

I can live with the problem but it would be better to have it solved.

Epox 8Kta3+Pro
T-Bird 1.4
Adaptec 29160 w/latest firmware and drivers.
Creten SB Live
Asus 3800D TnT2U
Quantum Atlas 10K 18LWS
Win98SE

is taht drive a u160 drive? in your scsi card bios do you have the correct transfer speed? normally hit ctrl A after post and this will bring you into the scsi card bios, then you will be able to change the transfer rate.

Yes it is, Sorry if alot of things seem skepticle was trying to write and keep in tune with the several voices coming from behind and lost my train of thought through most I was writing.

Ive done several test with the controler Bios changes and no differences, Only things I have found that may be a cause is My LAN card has a latency of 128 and sandra says this may hold up the PCI buss, going to check that one out now, The other is There is nothing showing BussMastering anywhere, Has this been eliminated from the newer MB's? All devices show fine, Ive never had any odities like this one in the many SCSI systems Ive built.
