HDD Temps

Anyone care to comment on safe/acceptable HDD temps?

Everest reports idle temps of around 40 C using air cooling (negative pressure) with no fan blowing directly on the HDDs.

Thanks!

I'm not sure on what the safe/acceptable temps would be, but I would say that temp is fine.

Here are my temps so you can compare.

My work PC HD temp is ~40C. (No direct fan on it.)

My home PC HD temp is ~40C. (No direct fan on it.)
My other home PC HD temp is ~34C. (With a direct fan on it.)

I have an oddball Western Digital. It likes idling well above 50C in my Mystique in the basement, with my intake fan blowing across it. When scouring the drive it used to go above 68C in its original HP Pavilion case... it can still reach 60C now. Definitely scared me and my friends, but hey, the drive still works....

I also have a Maxtor which idles around 40C. Ironically the WD's SMART data scores higher than the Maxtor's in SpeedFan.
