HDD shutting down while PC is on.

Have a Antec Smartblue 350.

Abit NF7-2
1800+@2.2 200FSB
512mb
80gb Seagate
Radeon 7200
1 optical drive
4 case fans

My HDD sometimes shuts down while the PC is in use and spins back up. I know it ain't the drive because I've had it happen to other drives aswell. What could be causing this? Also wouldn't it cause the system to lock up? I'm confused?

I can hear that clunking sound and the HDD spinning down that you get when you shut the system down.

Under power options properties is it set to turn off the hard disks after a certain amount of time?

Also could be the PSU

this happens a lot on my older hdd.. the molex plug was bad, every time something touches the wire (open case), you hear the hdd go on/off

This JUST happened to me and I finally fixed it the other day. Turned out to be a bad power supply. It used to do it everyday but not anymore since I got a new power supply.
