HDD Shortcuts Freezing On Access

I have links to my hard drive partitions on a toolbar on my desktop. For the past couple of weeks, sometimes when I click on one, it will freeze for some seconds (est. about 30-60 seconds). It doesn't do it everytime, and it's not any particular partition/drive. It's done it on at least 3 partitions, of which are all on different drives. I've started to notice it doing this after I put a sata hard drive on the silicon sata controller a couple weeks back. I'm not saying it wasn't doing it before hand, but I've only noticed since then (which was the last hardware change I've made). Someone had told me this will happen if you have your IDE drives filled and use that sata controller. Any suggestions? Fixes?

When I get the chance, I may disconnect that drive and see if the problem still exists. Hardware specs are listed below in my sig. Thanks

In your power options, do you have the hard drives set to power down after a set amount of time? Is it possible that they're taking a while to spin back up?

nope, it's set to "never". i've noticed it will do it back to back though. meaning i can open the drive, and click on it again within a few seconds and it will freeze again. but like i said in the first post, it doesn't do it everytime. incase it's needed, i'm using the standard xp drivers for all the drives except i installed the silicon image driver for the sil sata controller.
