HDD rpm and PC gaming

Does HDD rpm affect the ability for today's games to load and run smoothly? I'm asking because I'd really like to install games on my gaming laptop to export via HDMI to my TV. But the HDD in the laptop is only 5400rpm obviously. On my desktop, also within range of the TV, I have an SSD and a 7200 rpm 3.5" drive but it would require a longer HDMI cable.

Just wondering if 5400 is really a deterrent to smooth gameplay, loading, etc.

Some games load and then don't really care about getting more data from the HDD in a way that affects gameplay.

But there are those games that will access the HDD and make you wait during that time, such as when you move from one area in a game to another area. Those games might stutter a bit on a hard drive, and stutter less on an SSD.

So it depends on the game.

Of course not, since 7200 is not very much more than 5400.
