HDD Response Time App

I have a Toshiba MK1234GSX ( http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Pa...kDrives/MK1234GSXPage/MK1234GSXSpecifications ) HDD on my HP laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 . It would appear that when accessing certain areas of the disk the response is very slow .
1. Is this an indication that there may be trouble up ahead ?
2. Is there some application available that can access the disk , checking response times , that can automatically copy data from a poor to a good area , and even include the poor areas in the "bad block" list ? If not , shouldn't this be an easy app to write up , for someone with disk know-how ?

If your drive has "poor areas" appearing moving your data to a good area isn't going to save it. New drive time.

To confirm whats going on, run the drive as a secondary (not the boot drive) in another system, and run www.HDDSCAN.com watch the map view, which will show you delays in sectors. If you are getting lots of yellow and worse, then your drive needs to be put out to pasture.

Thanks Russwinters - I have only the one boot drive on this laptop - any way of still running the HDDScan ?

It will still run, but may give some false results if the OS accesses the drive while your are scanning it (which will surely happen)
