i had a 120gb hdd that i trying to sell and i started having trouble copying files.

to make a long story short i tried to hook up the hdd to a desktop (from an external hdd box) and windows began 'fixing' the corrupt files. anyway the used space on the hdd is still the same but the main folder is missing.

any recommendations on how to fix or recover the info?

edit: they are not hidden folders

Find a data recovery tool. There are many out there but the two I've used are GetDataBack FAT and NTFS versions.

Google is your savior.

i figured i needed some type of hdd recovery tool, as you mentioned there are a lot out there and i didn't want to spend $50 each to find out which ones work. i was hoping for suggestion on tools. thanks

trying it right now, thanks.

update:
getdataback worked great. it took a couple of hours to recover the files from my 120gb hdd and it was a mystery trying to find the files but I got the vital ones (family pictures). Thanks for the suggested software.
