Hello,

One of my maxtor HDD'S when I shut down the computer, when the hdd heads are going to park are making a noise, like they are making contact with the edges of the hdd case inside. I've run tests with the maxtor diagnostic software, but it doesn't return any errors. Is this a sign of future failure of the HDD?

Any help appreciated.

I would say that any unusual sounds coming from a HD unit is a bad sign. It can only be a matter of time before something gets worn out inside the HD, or out of proper alignment.

If that HD is still under warranty, try getting a replacement HD is what I would do. I would Maxtor up and tell them that it seems to test ok but is making nioses. That way you can recieve the replacement HD and clone the defective HD to the new one.
