I recently got a bunch of IDE HDD's from work ,they all worked perfectly fine, and have been replaced with larger/faster drives.

I wanted to hook some of these up to my current rig, see the sig below for the specs...

My system drive is on a 74 gb raptor, SATA, the other two drives are a 100gb maxtor, and a 40gb maxtor.

I put the drives on CS, the BIOS settings to auto(enhanced wouldn't detect the the 40 GB). And now the 40 GB HDD is showing up as a SCSI DVD-ROM, but the 100 GB is detected and runs perfectly fine.

Any idea hwo to fix it?

As far as the 40GB Maxtor; it could be that it's controller and/or firmware is fried. If you could find another known-working Maxtor of the exact same model and capacity you could try switching the controller cards from the good drive to the bad drive. It isn't too hard to do (involves taking out the screws and carefully removing the small cable that connects the controller to the internal drive components) and is worth it unless you have to spend over 50% of what it would cost to simply replace the bad drive with a new one.

I've used that method at work to get drives working again with about a 70% success rate.
