hdd problem

I've just got a new 200gb hdd, and I decided to format my old 120 and reinstall xp on it. so I backed up what I need on it and copyed it over to my new 200. But then after I've formatted and reinstalled xp on my old hdd, I got a problem with my new hdd. I couldn't open all folders in it, so I rebooted. then windows started to automatically delete bad sectors or files (can't remember exactly what it was), and after that it started recovering. and then when xp started up I could access all folders, but files were damaged, picture files can't be opened, txt files are filled with sh*t, and I can't open any progs on it. and what i find even more weird is what's happened to some mp3 files. some folders with mp3s are ok, id tags works etc. but then again some other is not ok, it's like mp3 files have been switched in some folders, but having different filenames. like if I open beatles.mp3 for example, it starts playing in the middle of beach_boys.mp3 which was located another place on my hdd.

I really hope someone can help me out with this, and that I explaind it in an understandful way.

Right off hand, it sounds like your NTFS file system was corrupted in the back up.

Also... it sounds like your jacked as far as data recovery goes. I hope you made DVD backups

well, all worked fine untill I installed xp. I really hope there is a solution to this, since I don't got any other backups.

and you said it sounds like my NTFS file system was corrupted in the back up - don't know what mean about that really :\ but I did only copy over from my old hdd to my new. and all files worked fine until I formated and reinstalled xp as i mentined above.
