thought i'd post this here too....

hi, i just built a new pc and its fitted with a 40gb hard drive thats 7200rpm, sometimes during bootup when its searching for whats on IDE1 (which is this hdd) it takes ages and the hdd makes really loud clicking noises, also if loading programs such as photoshop or paint shop pro it sometimes stops briefly and clicks.

anyone know what this is? and whats causing it? is it normal?

Clicking noises are usually a sign that it might be on its last leg. If it's still under warranty I would try to get it replaced.

Just about all of the manufacturers have a diagnostic utility to test their drives. Go to your manufacturers website and download the utility and preform the test.
