I bought a Maxtor 30.7GB (7200RPM, ATA-100)hard drive 2 weeks ago, saw the deal on Anandtech's Hot Deal forum. It has been working fine, but today, I found that it has bad sectors, a lot of them.
What is weird is that my WD 307AA (30.7GB, 5400RPM, ATA-66) also has bad sectors and was discovered a week ago, so I file RMA, and received the replacement with in 5 days.
My question is What can cause bad sectors to occur??? I did not shake the either HDD.
Is it possible that the Controller Card has gone bad and cause bad sector? Anything??
I also have question about how to fill in the rebate for that ATA-100 Card, so if you bought one, I need help on that too. On the rebate form where it ask for serial numbers, The section is titled "Serial Numbers: ", but when you go down, it says "Hard Drive Model Number____________", then "Ultra ATA PCI Card Model Number_____________", so do I fill in the model numbers or the serial numbers? How about both?
Thanks for any reply.
