My CD/DVD RW is set to master, HDD is set to slave, both on the same IDE cable (Tried cable select on both, still got the same error).

When I boot and try to install windows XP, I get an error that says

A problem was found, windows will shut down to prevent any damage. Please remove any new HDD's, or HDD controllers. Run chkdsk /f to check for drive corruption.
Stop: 0x0000007b (0xF78DA63C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Anyone have any ideas what to do? Help will be greatly appreciated as I leave for college tomorrow, and I hope to have my computer running and formatted today :)

Just curious as to why you set the HD to slave and optical drive to master?
That's not a normal setup around here.
